Woodwork initiative a cut above for volunteers
A woodworking social enterprise in Fort William has been recognised for meeting the highest standards of volunteering in Scotland.
Established by independent maker Cameron Bauer in 2019, The Workshop has received a Volunteer Friendly Award (VFA) - a user-friendly quality standard to support, recognise and reward groups which are good at involving volunteers.
The Workshop specialises in professional design and manufacture of bespoke indoor and outdoor furniture in support of mental health charity Lochaber Hope. Cameron, who stood down from the role of project lead at the end of last week, said he was honoured and proud to receive the award on behalf of the team.
‘It is always a lot of hard work to establish and develop a new organisation which provides volunteering opportunities so I’m delighted The Workshop has been recognised as being a great place for volunteers to participate, learn, grow, build and flourish,’ he said.
Cameron added: ‘We are not a just a space for men, so please get in touch if you’ve wondered about participating but weren’t sure whether you fit the bill as a potential volunteer. Our volunteers up to this point have all provided positive feedback about their experiences and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to have an impact in their lives and invite anyone who may be curious about participating to get in touch to learn more so they can receive a similar benefit.’ Cameron and the team thank VFA for evaluating The Workshop and issuing this award and Voluntary Action Lochaber for its support in achieving this and for its continued support.
Thanks also to the staff, volunteers and directors of Lochaber Hope for continuing to support The Workshop and its various projects.
