Bradley saves the day for depleted Jags

South Lochaber Thistle (SLT) were beaten 3-0 by a resilient Cambria side in Stepps.

SLT were again missing a raft of players leading to Jags legend Bradley Cameron getting flashbacks of playing in the U17s as he swapped his shooting boots for a pair of goalie gloves.

Chris Kyle, Andy Maclean and Marty Munro all came close to netting for SLT but found a Cambria keeper in great form. They also hit the woodwork on several occasions.

Industrious forward play by the returning Danny Mackintosh was supported by the twinkle-toed Roberto Rodriguez-Santos.

The visitors played some beautiful football at times but just couldn’t break down the Cambria backline.

Speaking after the game, manager Alan Gray said: ‘I’m disappointed to once again be missing more players than we had available. On days like this it can be difficult to find the positives but Graham Laidlaw came in at full back and did well.

‘He took a wee bit of time to find his feet but grew into the game and looked composed.

‘It’s important to see the younger lads getting an opportunity.

‘It was also great to see Danny Mac back in a Jags’ shirt and a huge shout-out to Bradley for stepping up to don the keeper’s gloves.

‘He saved us a couple of times and it takes guts to step in. He’s a true SLT man and I definitely owe him a Smirnoff Ice or two.’

The Jags hit the road again this weekend when they play Westerlands Amateur Football Club.
