Thrilled to be back...

-

Oban and Lorn Strathspey and Reel Society is back in concert.

About 60 people turned up at St John’s Cathedral on Saturday to see society members perform on stage for the first time since Covid.

Conductor Helen Jordan said it was ‘thrilling’ to be back and added: ‘It was quite an emotional evening hearing live music again and we got great feedback from the audience who enjoyed themselves. It was thrilling to be back.’

Guest artistes on the night were Helen Watt, Audrey and Davy Paterson and brother and sister Donnie and Mhairi MacCorquodale.

Moira Dunlop was bean an taigh (compere) for the event.

During lockdown the society met on Zoom but were able to restart in-person meet-ups late last year to get ready for 2022 concerts. Usually the society would host an annual rally, inviting musicians from different areas to the Corran Halls with an audience of about 200 people but decided to play it safe for this year with a concert in the cathedral.

‘We hope to bring the rally back for 2023,’ added Helen.

Oban and Lorn Strathspey and Reel Society will be performing again on Saturday May 21 at Appin Village Hall, and at Taynuilt Village Hall on Saturday May 28. Both concerts start at 7.30pm and tickets can be bought at the door.
