Hole-in-one but Bob and partner miss Classic cut
Bob MacIntyre experienced the perfect illustration of the highs and lows of professional golf at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans last week.
Playing alongside fellow Scot Martin Laird in this unique team event, the Oban golfer took centre stage on Thursday with a brilliant hole-in-one at the 14th which catapulted the pairing up the leaderboard after an opening round of 66.
Unfortunately Friday’s foursomes - where players hit alternate shots - proved much more of a challenge. Neither player could find any momentum in the tricky format and they eventually carded a disappointing three over par 75 which meant they missed the cut in a tournament won by the pairing of Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele.
Despite the disappointment of missing the cut, it was clear the left-hander loved the unusual format of the tournament, tweeting later that he would love to see a similar tournament on the European Tour.
Next up for Bob is the Betfred British Masters at the Belfry, starting Thursday May 5.
