THE CHAMBER

-

Event season is kicking off here in Lochaber as the Outdoor Capital of the UK reinforces its place as a showcase event destination for Scotland.

Last weekend saw Glencoe Mountain Resort and Nevis Range hold successful and well attended events at both resorts, attracting a local and international audience that showed how the Lochaber landscape can be home to excellent events.

The Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) makes its return for the first time since 2019, bringing riders to the area – Fort William, Ardgour, Ballachulish, Glencoe, Glen Etive, Glen Nevis and stretching to Rannoch Moor through the week. It’s great to see this iconic event back in the local events calendar, running from May 2-7, with the traditional parade of riders down Fort William High Street.

With the SSDT kicking off May events and the coming season, there’s plenty more to enjoy throughout Lochaber this spring and summer, including the HSBC Downhill Series and UCI Mountain Bike World Cup events at Nevis Range, West Highland Way Race and Great Glencoe Challenge in June, the return of regional Highland Games, including Arisaig and Glenfinnan, and then we’re back to racing with the famous Ben Nevis Race and the Salomon Ring of Steall Skyrace in September.

With only a selection of events mentioned above, this year is going to be epic and a perfect excuse to support local events and organisers, and producers, so fill your calendar and make a date to visit.

The Outdoor Capital of the UK is hosted by Lochaber of Chamber of Commerce, which is responsible for marketing Lochaber as the visitor destination of choice, as well as working with key stakeholders to improve infrastructure, visitor experience and much, much more.
