Strontian police houses renovations

Community councillors on Ardgour have welcomed confirmation of renovation works to the police houses at Strontian as a sign that Police Scotland is committed to retaining officers on the peninsula.

At the April meeting of Ardgour Community Council, members heard a written report from the area’s two permanent local officers, PC Joan MacIvor and PC Angela Campbell, that the recent Strontian Police Station drop-in day had been very successful.

‘We would like to thank everyone who attended the drop-in day – we both feel it was a successful and worthwhile event,’ the two officers told the community council.

‘We had a steady stream of people throughout the day which was amazing. We will probably have another one in the summer months.’

The council heard that assurances had been given by Police Scotland that the two police properties will have some renovation work carried out, which was welcomed as a demonstration of Police

Scotland being committed to having officers based in Strontian for the long term.

Whilst the work is ongoing there will be at least one officer still in the village but hopefully two if alternative accommodation can be arranged.

Community council chairperson, Samantha Thomson, told the Lochaber Times this week: ‘We are delighted at the plan by Police Scotland to renovate the police houses in Strontian.

‘This is a real commitment to a sustainable future for our excellent local police service.’
