Paul’s crawl brings amputee awareness to the fore

-

A double amputee from Cheshire has become the latest in a long line of heroes who have put aside their own problems to ascend Britain's highest mountain for the benefit of others.

Having crawled up Mount Snowdon for the charity AmpCamp Kids in August last year, 57-year-old father of two Paul Ellis was keen to continue raising funds and awareness for amputees.

Along with the wider AmpCamp team, Paul set out on his epic crawl at 6.30am on Saturday April 15 and arrived at the summit around 12 hours later having made his way through two feet of snow at the summit.

After a hot chocolate and photocall with the team, Paul attached his legs back on and headed back to base camp for some much-needed rest, arriving in the dark at 10pm.

Team leader Keir Nicholson said: ‘It was my pleasure and privilege to arrange and lead this climb with Paul. I could not be prouder of my friend and the cause he raises funds for, Ampcamp Kids.’

Paul now plans to crawl Scafell pike to complete the UK's three highest peaks within a year. To donate go to https://www. gofundme.com/f/MOUNT-SNOWDONCRAWL-FOR-AMPCAMP-KIDS.
