Scotland on Tour at Rockfield

-

An exciting initiative to support the recovery of Scotland’s live music industry, called Scotland on Tour, is showcasing special concerts at The Rockfield Centre in Oban.

Award-winning Scottish singer/songwriter and multi instrumentalist Elsa Jean McTaggart will play on Friday May 6. The centre then has five more shows confirmed as part of their Scotland on Tour series throughout the year.

Elsa Jean McTaggart and her husband Gary Lister will perform their When the World Stood Still show, a mesmerising mix of music and storytelling about their move from the sunny care-free island of Gran Canaria to the cold, wet, windy Western Isles of Scotland and their renovation of a derelict cottage on the Isle of Lewis during lockdown.

Elsa Jean McTaggart said: 'We’re looking forward to getting on stage and telling our story, with a Celtic fusion of Hebridean melody celebrating life, sorrow, uncertainty, joy and laughter. It’s a really fun show and we hope audiences at The Rockfield Centre enjoy it!'

Scotland on Tour will take place over a period of 12 months, until April 2023, supporting the creation of hundreds of concerts and performances at much-loved arts centres, town halls and community venues. More than 120 artists are set to perform at more than 100 venues as part of the initiative.

The remaining five shows confirmed for the Rockfield Centre as part of the series include, Recitals for Wrigglers on Thursday June 2, Ainsley Hamill on Friday June 17, Mary Ann Kennedy and Finlay Wells on Saturday July 9, Ryan Young on Saturday October 8 and The Jellyman’s

Daughter on Saturday October 22. The project, created and managed by Active Events, was made possible by £750,000 of Scottish Government backing and will focus on increasing the number of opportunities to showcase and enjoy live music, while bringing acts to cities, towns, villages and rural communities.

The year-long Scotland on Tour bill includes both emerging and established artists with genre-spanning acts, with rock, pop, jazz, classical, folk, trad and acoustic genres all being showcased.
