RNLI give it welly

-

Oban RNLI is challenging other lifeboat stations to try to beat its knitted yellow welly record.

In 2021, the charity’s fundraising branch had the idea of knitting as many miniature yellow wellies as possible for its Mayday campaign and by the end of the month had made 157 pairs to be sold off for donations.

Now they are at it again, determined to beat their own record and inviting other RNLI branches to do the same.

Already Bude RNLI shop, RNLI Hunstanton, and RNLI Winscombe & District have taken up the extended challenge with hopes that more will follow.

Oban volunteers were on the North Pier on Bank Holiday Monday with a popup stall to launch the biggest fundraiser of its calendar year and to sell souvenirs including the last of Oban Lifeboat’s 50th anniversary mugs.

The branch’s Phil Hamerton said: ‘We’re looking for new volunteers too, as we look to grow our fundraising team and help save lives at sea in Oban and the surrounding area for many more years to come.’
