Diary date for SWI’s Argyll Federation show in Oban

-

More than 100 Scottish Women's Institute (SWI) members are heading to the Argyll Federation's big show at Oban’s Corran Halls this Saturday, May 14.

Doors open at 10am as the show makes a comeback after Covid - organisers have had to cancel it twice.

Oban's Cancer Research Committee will be running the tearoom during the event, with soup and sandwiches over lunch. Entry is £2 and the show with all its competitions ends at 3pm.

There will also be the chance to buy craft materials from a stall run by SWI members on the day.

SWI Argyll's president Brenda MacLeod is hoping the long-awaited event will attract a good turnout and encourage new members to sign up.

Mrs MacLeod said: ‘We’ll have about 100 members showcasing their skills in the hope of taking home prizes. It’s all good fun and we hope to see lots of people come along and join us for the day.’

There is much more to the SWI than making the perfect scone or knitting a cosy hat, she says. The SWI is a community where women can have fun and make friends while learning, sharing and socialising together. Raising awareness of issues affecting women and campaigning to influence government is also on the priority list.

In Argyll, there are 14 institutes across the region from Appin down to Southend by Campbeltown, with about 270 members. The oldest are in their 90s, some are in their 40s and the rest are mainly in between.
