Ardnamurchan, Moidart and Morvern welcome musical dynamic duo Chisholm and Napier
Legendary fiddler Duncan Chisholm and multi-instrumentalist Hamish Napier will play three dates on the Ardnamurchan peninsula this May.
Taking to the stage in Glenuig Hall on Thursday May 19, Kilchoan Community Centre on Friday May 20 and Lochaline Village Hall on Saturday May 21, the duo will take part in three performances as part of Scotland on Tour, the exciting initiative to support the recovery of Scotland’s live music industry.
As one of Scotland’s most recognised and accomplished fiddle players and composers, Duncan’s music conveys a unique quality of composition performed with a tenderness and a passion that is second to none. Born and brought up near Inverness, Duncan has spent most of his life developing his unique musical voice, significantly influenced by the beautiful surroundings he calls home.
He said: 'I am really looking forward to playing these fantastic venues on the Ardnamurchan peninsula. It’s a very special place, made so by the landscape and the people.
'It’s been a number of years since I last played these stages and I am excited to get back and showcase the new music I have been writing and performing over the last couple of years during lockdown and beyond.'
Hamish Napier’s music is a unique balance of tradition and innovation. He respects and celebrates Scotland’s rich musical heritage in a contemporary style that is engaging and soulful.
Hamish is also greatly inspired by the Highland landscape and recently moved home to his native Strathspey where he has composed three solo albums The River, 2016; The Railway, 2018; and The Woods, 2020, that all celebrate his homeland.
Scotland on Tour hit the road in April and continues till April 2023. The remaining concerts on the Ardnamurchan peninsula stages are Malin Makes Music, Daimh, Fara and Breabach.
Programmer Marie Lewis said: 'This is a fantastic initiative to support performers, promoters, venues and communities to start up again and I am over the moon to be working with Duncan and Hamish.
'I hope folk will come out in droves to welcome him to their halls and support the much-needed comeback of live music making.'
Scotland on Tour supports the creation of hundreds of concerts and performances at arts centres, town halls and community venues across Scotland. More than 120 artists will perform at more than 100 venues across the country as part of the initiative.
The project, created and managed by Active Events, was made possible thanks to £750,000 of Scottish Government backing and will focus on increasing the number of opportunities to showcase and enjoy live music, while bringing exciting acts to cities, towns, villages and rural communities.
