Songwriter's album blends folk music and voices
Cairn, the new album by Blair Coron, is composed of reminiscences of Scotland.
Blair Coron is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from Springfield in Fife. His music blends modern classical, folk and poetry, with nature, people, time and place being common themes throughout. Blair’s primary intention is to 'create enchanting atmospheres that set course for introspection and meditation'.
After the UK tour of his debut album On The Nature of Things, aired on BBC Radio 3, 4 and 6, Blair released his second album entitled Cairn.
‘Cairn is a living memory,' explained Blair Coron: 'It is a collection of new music set to archival recordings of those who once lived in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, discussing moments of childhood, folklore and people. It is a celebration of the more intricate moments of Scottish and Gaelic culture and a thank you to all it has given so far.
'It is not just an album, it is not just a film. We are in the living rooms, we are in the kitchens and around the firesides drinking tea with these people, from across time and getting to know them. My music is the radio playing in the corner and the emotions echoing through our minds.
'They shall be our companions, our grandparents and our teachers. They had lived a whole life, let us offer them a chance for resurrection, let them tell you a story.'
The album is available to listen through all streaming services and purchase on Bandcamp. The accompanying film is available to watch via YouTube.
Blair regularly provides 'sanctuary to other similar musicians, whose music does not fit within the traditional performance venue aesthetic', through his concert series entitled Píu, which he co-founded and hosts. 'It is a space for quieter musicians and artists who wish to erase the divide between audience and performer and share their creations in an intimate setting,' he said.
