Thousands raised for Ukraine
A tiny community with a big heart raised more than £8,800 in a day to help the people of Ukraine.
Colonsay, with a population of around 130 people, brought young and old residents together to sell their handmade arts and crafts in a silent online auction to raise funds for the Red Cross Crisis Appeal for Ukraine.
Colonsay artist Roz Jewell set up the successful fundraiser with help from other islanders.
Artwork by island schoolchildren was sold alongside the work of amateur and established artists, helping bring in cash for the good cause.
Islander Sheena Nisbet said: ‘It’s a tiny island which has shown it has a huge heart.
‘Roz decided to host a silent auction using works of art donated by locals. She is very grateful to everyone who donated and those who bought.’
