Bridge of Orchy Hotel’s plan for 11 lodges

-

Plans have been unveiled for 11 lodges next to a hotel alongside the A82.

The operators of the Bridge of Orchy Hotel, near Tyndrum, want to put the new accommodation beside its premises as part of a wider programme of works.

The hotel’s owners already have an application in with Argyll and Bute Council to extend the premises’ outdoor terrace to increase the area of its bar and restaurant.

A decision is expected from the council’s planning officers by early July, and the public can now view the plans and submit comments to the authority.

A design statement by planning agents MICA Architects said: ‘The development proposals are situated on the plot to the north of Station Brae which is largely an undeveloped mix of hillside and brownfield.

‘There is also a communal residential accommodation block for hotel employees and adjacent to the hotel’s ownership are vacated derelict buildings of the former village school.

‘This development forms part of a suite of proposals to allow the hotel to accommodate change and ensure the longterm success of this important tourist destination.’

The statement added: ‘Future development proposals will seek to improve the route from the Station bunkhouse, station car park and drop-off, and the pedestrian route along Station Brae which is a key section of the West Highland Way.

‘This will include upgrading the edges of the route with planting, fencing, and street furniture, which will complement and be similar to the landscape approach developed for the lodges site.’
