Dunollie pipes up for Jubilee

-

Dunollie Museum, Castle and Grounds has announced a series of special events to coincide with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend, writes Kathie Griffiths.

To launch the extended Bank Holiday weekend, Dunollie has asked talented piper Jamie MacGregor to join pipers across the Commonwealth in playing a tune composed for the occasion by Stuart Liddell of Inveraray.

Jamie will pipe the tune, a 6/8 march called Diu Regnare (Latin for ‘Long to reign’), as the sun sets at 9.35pm on Thursday June 2 from Dunollie’s castle ruin.

A limited number of free tickets are available from Dunollie’s website to hear Jamie and take part in the iconic moment marking the Queen’s ascendency to the throne on June 2, 1953.

During the rest of the weekend, visitors will be able to enjoy lots of activities at Duollie, including make-and-take crown fun for children and savouring a special pudding served from the Kettle Garden Café. The event will be suitable for all the family during Dunollie’s normal opening hours, 10am-4pm.

Finally, Dunollie’s Heritage Garden leader will be unveiling a tree to be planted in the World of Trees on Monday June 5 at 2pm. This new addition will replace the Black Walnut, which needs to be removed for conservation purposes.

General manager Emma Sutcliffe said: ‘We are looking forward this celebratory weekend for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and can’t wait to welcome visitors for some fun activities.’
