Bob aiming for an extra 48 hours in Tulsa
Robert MacIntyre goes into the USPGA championship, which starts on Thursday, hoping to extend his hugely impressive record in major tournaments. Despite being in the early stages of his career, Bob has played in eight major tournaments and has never missed a cut. When you throw in two top-ten finishes at the Open and a 12th place finish on his Masters debut, it is clear the left-hander raises his game on the biggest stages in professional golf.
The Oban star will be hoping to keep that 100 per cent record going when he tees it up in his ninth Major at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa Oklahoma. The USPGA is often seen as the poor relation of the other three Majors, but its list of winners reads like a who’s who of golfing legends, with Nicklaus, Woods and McIlroy all having their names engraved on the famous Wanamaker trophy.
Last year Phil Mickelson made history by becoming, at 51, the oldest man to win a major trophy, and it was his intended return and subsequent last-minute withdrawal in the wake of his controversial remarks about the Saudi-backed Liv Invitational series that have hogged the media attention. With all that focus on one man, Bob will be hoping to slip under the radar and quietly go about maintaining his remarkable record in major tournaments while getting himself into a position to contend come the weekend.
All of Oban will have their fingers crossed that our man can secure an extra 48 hours in Tulsa.
