Former Corpach hostel to be auctioned

-

News that disused hostel in Corpach is to go under the auctioneer’s hammer early next month has been welcomed by the chairman of the local community council.

John Hutchison, who heads up Kilmallie Community Council, was commenting this week after news that Farr Cottage was to be sold off with a guide price of £185,000.

The sale will comprise a sixbed detached house, former hostel and activity centre, four-bed detached annex and what is described as ‘generous’ garden grounds.

The home report values the property at £225,000 and Dalry-based Wilsons Auctions, which will sell the property at auction on Wednesday June 8, says it has endless opportunities with uses suited to both a family house, B&B and hostel.

Mr Hutchison told the Lochaber Times this week he welcomed the news the property would be brought back into use and was sure many in the local community would feel the same.

a‘It is good there might now be some prospect of development of this important site in Corpach,’ said Mr Hutchison.

‘I would think if it is sold it might possibly end up as housing, perhaps along the lines of apartments and I would think something like three families could get homes out of a place like that.’

Lorren Mullen, property department manager for Wilsons Auctions Ltd, said the property had been inactive for a number of years.

‘It is being sold by the bank directly,’ she said, adding that there had been several inquiries from interested parties within just hours of Farr Cottage being listed for auction. ‘It is quite a niche property and is a good development opportunity,’ Ms Mullen told us. ‘I think there should be a fair amount of interest as it is in an attractive location and priced to sell.’
