Coire Glas update
An update on the Coire Glas pumped hydro storage scheme earmarked for Loch Lochy was given to Spean Bridge, Roy Bridge and Achnacarry Community Council at its May meeting in Kilmonivaig Church Hall.
Alan Greenwood, stakeholder engagement manager on the Coire Glas scheme, gave a summary of current events, including feedback
from the community consultation held online and at the exhibition at Spean Bridge community centre on Thursday April 21. In response to questions from the community councillors and the public, he confirmed it was not currently SSE Renewables’ intention to use Mucomir Farm other than as a final destination for the rock and spoil extracted from Coire Glas.
Analysis of the geological rock structure following preparatory tunnelling will determine
the quantity to be removed from the site.
Preparatory works contractor Strabag UK is researching the best method to get tunnelling equipment to the site. Using the burger van layby on the A82 at Letterfinlay to build a slipway appears the favoured option at present.
Using the rock as the base for a cruise liner terminal or for additional laybys on the A82 alongside Loch Lochy were suggested and noted by Mr Greenwood.
