Charlie is a darling

-

The Highlands is full of people who go the extra mile for their neighbours and their community, but we are in awe of Charlie MacRae from Plockton, who is stepping down as secretary of the village hall after an amazing 60 years as secretary.

The amount of time he has given community is truly commendable.

As well as secretary, he was also hall treasurer and hall keeper. He spent 40 years on Plockton Community Council, 25 as chairman. He served for 31 years as secretary of the Lochalsh Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland, and poppy convener for over 20 years.

He was involved with the local football association for 10 years, 38 years with the Badminton Association, including 26 years with the local badminton club, and when the Skye and Lochalsh Sports Council was formed in 1975, Charlie joined the committee and was on it for 32 years, the last 18 years as chairman.

Charlie has no doubt received much joy from his giving, but so many people will have benefited from his kindness and generosity. We could all do with taking a leaf out of Charlie’s book of what consitutes a happy life. to his
