Christmas illuminations appeal gets off to lightning start
Things are progressing nicely in this year’s efforts to make Oban shine like never before.
Oban Festive Lights Group has held its second meeting with a view to significantly improving the town’s festive lights this Christmas, and they need your help for more funding.
The meeting was attended by various representatives from Oban Community Council, BID4Oban and Oban Electrical Services, along with interested individuals.
After hearing news of Oban’s efforts to ‘Shine Out for Christmas’, Andrew Spence from BID4Oban was contacted by Blachere Illuminations who were keen to be involved.
Mr Spence from BID4Oban said: ‘It was fantastic to garner such sound advice during the meeting from a business who is just as interested in illuminating Oban as the group is.
‘We all want to make this year’s lights the best they can be, but funding is needed. There will also be significant investment in replacing wiring etc in various locations to ensure it complies with current health and safety regulations,’ Mr Spence said.
‘We are urging our community to support us in any way they can. This will help us to reach our initial target of £20,000,’ he said.
Fundraising options were also discussed as proposals will come at a significant cost. To that end a Facebook page has been set up, Oban Festive Lights and a Justgiving page also named Oban Festive Lights.
If anyone is interested in joining or supporting this group, please contact them through the Facebook page or via the BID4Oban office.
