Around Oban

- KAY DONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

It’s looking like it’s going to be a really busy year in Oban as events start to arrive in our inbox at BID4Oban with lots of exciting stuff to look forward to. So here’s a wee look at what’s coming up this month and what we’re working on just now.

We’re currently recruiting pipers to help us welcome our first cruise ship at the end of March, while the organising of Oban International Shanty Festival has begun in earnest. In fact we’re looking for a shanty crew to help out with everything shanty related, so if you think you can help, let us know on 01631 569915 or email kay@bid4oban.co.uk.

There’s lots happening as we head into March, with Spotlight Theatre taking to the stage for performances of the musical “9 to 5” at the Corran Halls this weekend, and in The Rockfield Centre there is fabulous music tomorrow, Friday March 3, with Lizabett Russo, and Eilidh Shaw and Ross Martin bringing Birl-esque to the Rockfield on Saturday.

Next weekend is a big one for Oban High School Pipe Band as they host a concert with their friends in the Corran Halls.

We have a coffee morning raising funds for the RNLI in The Royal Hotel on Saturday March 11, a quiz for Argyll Beats Cardiovascular Disease in The Royal Hotel on Friday March 17 – always a great night – and on the 18th, for the beer lovers among you, there’s a beer festival laid on by Oban Beer Seller called For the Love of Beer, which is being held in The View.

All the details are online at Oban What’s On and on Facebook at Oban Town Diary.

Remember, if you have an event coming up, let us know and we’ll help to publicise it.

This is only a selection of what’s on, as we have great local musicians around the hotels and pubs and live theatre performances, as well as great films at Oban Phoenix Cinema – really something to entertain everyone.
