LT First post-pandemic Girlguiding Thinking Day event held in Fort
More than 200 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers from all over Inverness-shire descended on the Nevis Centre on Saturday to celebrate Thinking Day.
They came from Skye, Inverness and Lochaber for their first big celebration since 2019. It was also the first time it has been held in Fort William in recent time.
Louise Giles, Fort, Islands and Glens Division commissioner and Fort William Brownie leader said: “It is a real treat that we only have to spend a few minutes getting to the event as we normally have to head up to Inverness for our county activities.
“The theme for the day was British Guides Overseas, which entailed learning about British units around the world and their host associations.”
The girls enjoyed crafts, games, songs and a quiz, amongst other activities. They were also able to speak to Guiding leaders on Zoom from Dubai and the Netherlands.
At the campfire session the girls had fun with dancing puppets and great hilarity ensued. One of the Guides said the games were fun and good after sitting on a coach for hours.
The quizzes about BGO and Guiding around the world proved a hit with all the age groups, while some spectacular African landscapes were produced by the girls in the crafts session.
Over the day a great time was had by all.
Girlguiding is growing in Lochaber providing a safe space for girls to grow and develop confidence.
Guides were recently added to the Brownie unit in Acharacle and the Rainbow unit in Fort William is reopening after Easter.
Girlguiding would like to give the opportunity to more girls so if anyone would like to join the enthusiastic local team or has a girl interested in Rainbows, Brownies and Guides go to Girlguiding.org. uk for more information.
