Lochaber go on rampage at Banavie ahead of Bowl final

Lochaber Hyndland West Division Three 52 0

Following their West Bowl semi-final win against the same team, Lochaber were back in league action last week when welcoming Hyndland to Banavie.

Captain Ryan Davies returned from injury to kick things off and Lochaber set the tone immediately with some powerful defensive work.

It took only seven minutes for the hosts to get their first points on the board, Callum Boyd crashing through to score under the posts.

Lochaber had to defend their line again for a spell before a Hyndland lineout was over thrown and Dylan Monk regathered and took off on a mazy run, beating six players in the process, before passing the ball to Boyd who looped a pass to Ben Fulford who then gave it to Davy Duncan to run in.

Lochaber’s third try came from the mid field when Christopher Simpson tried a chip over the top, which he then regathered and tore free. Hyndland’s scrambling defence could not get near him.

The bonus point try came just a few minutes later. Alasdair Davidson broke free in the centre of the pitch with the ball travelling through Simpson and Boyd before reaching Davies who added a try to his four conversions for a 28-0 lead at the break.

After the restart Monk caught the kick off and ran straight through a tackle before being dragged down six metres from the try line. Lochaber were awarded a penalty at the break down. A quick tap and several solid passes allowed Rory MacKay to score in the corner.

Gregor Wood then picked up from the ruck and forced his way through to score his first try of the game and added a second minutes later following a 45 metre run.

With 20 minutes remaining, Dylan Monk went on another 40 metre mazy run beating another six defenders. He was finally rewarded for all his hard work as he scored the final try of the game.

Two more conversions from Davies made up the final tally.

Lochaber welcome Cumbernauld to Banavie this Saturday in the West Bowl final. Kick- off is currently 3pm but both teams are in discussion over an earlier time of 2pm. Check Lochaber Rugby Club Facebook page for confirmation.
