The first Mull and Iona Open Studios timed for this Easter

-

Globally famous as the place to see eagles and the birth of Christianity in Scotland, Mull and Iona are set to reveal a less well-known aspect of the islands - the vibrant visual arts that are flourishing there.

For the first time, artists and craftspeople based on the islands have joined together to invite the public to visit their workshops and display spaces, taking place over the Easter weekend from April 7-10.

The opportunity to journey around the islands, with breath-taking views unfolding with every turn of the road, and talk first-hand to artists about their work in stunning settings, makes for an exceptional weekend experience.

More than 60 visual artists and craftspeople are showing their work in 25 venues peppered throughout the islands, from artists’ own studios and galleries, to pop-up venues in community halls and shops.

The main town of Tobermory and the picturesque villages of Dervaig, Fionnphort and Iona host clusters of venues, while others are found individually in the dramatic and remote corners of north and west Mull. The wild and beautiful west coast route on Mull is an adventure in itself, and finding outstanding art dotted in the middle of nowhere is an encounter not to be missed.

Many artists choose to live on Mull and Iona because of the inspirational landscape and unspoiled natural environment, which unsurprisingly features in much of their work.

Most of the visual arts and crafts on display will be for sale or are available on commission, including textiles, jewellery, painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, glass, printmaking, bookbinding, basketry and photography.
