Fort William Reserves 3 Friendly fixture

Mallaig FC wasted no time in trawling Fort William Reserves hook, line and sinker as they extended their good form of recent weeks to reel in their catch 6-3 at home as former Fort first teamer Andrew

Sneddon ran amok, writes Peter

Newman.

Switched to Mallaig at the last moment due to a frozen park in Fort William, Sneddon helped himself to a full five finishes on the day as the Lochaber second team were given a lesson in how rough the seas are going to be in competitive action once the Skye and Lochalsh League gets under way.

Mitigation for the Fort William Reserves came in the fact that they were playing only their third game and their first full 90 minutes with a hastily reshuffled line up.

Their three goals came from a variety of sources. Centre back Mikey Rodgers planted a towering header to reduce the arrears to only 3-1 at half time.

In the second half, as Sneddon continued to fire the home side ahead, striker Davie Neil lobbed the Mallaig keeper and youngster Morgan Birrell drove a finish into the top left hand corner of the net.

However, with Gordie Jamieson plundering the sixth for the Fishermen, this was a worthwhile run out for the newly formed Fort side.

Club chairman John Trew was upbeat. “This was a promising start for the lads’ first full 90 minutes,” he said.

‘‘The team on the park was not the finished article and we are still looking at lads and working to find our final 22.

‘‘I am confident that this match will be a lot closer when it’s replayed in the league and we can look forward to a successful season.”
