Litter pickers pick up funding

-

Eight-year-old Jack Grant super hero.

The eco-youngster was behind a community-wide keep-it-tidy initiative that has now grown into Kilchrenan/Inverinan and Dalavich Litter Group.

And the group has just been awarded a micro grant by GreenPower’s Carraig Gheal Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund to help Jack and the other members keep up the good work.

Jack said: “I want to do litter picks because it keeps the planet clean and I think that’s really important. I loved wearing my new ‘Chief Litter Picker’ hi-vis vest.”

Jack’s proud mum Isobel added: “Jack is an enthusiastic environmentalist and really cares about the litter problem in our area.”

Carraig Gheal Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund micro grants of up to £500 are available to individuals, constituted and non-constituted groups.

Applications can be made any time for projects based within one of the five community council areas bordering Carraig Gheal Wind Farm: Avich and Kilchrenan, Kilninver and Kilmelford, Kilmore, Taynuilt, and Glenorchy and Innishail.

At the end of each financial year, any funds left are allocated by the steering group to local charitable organisations. The most recent donations were £1,750 each to Oxygen Oban, North Argyll Volunteer Car Scheme and North Argyll Carers Centre.

As well as micro grants, there is grant scheme for funds of £501 to £10,000 available to constituted groups only. Village halls may, in their application, make the case for funding of more than £10,000, up to a maximum of £20,000.

The next funding round opened on Monday (May 1) with the closing date Monday July 31. The steering group will meet at the end of September to decide which applications to approve and by how much.

As with the micro grants, you can find out more on the Carraig Gheal website at carraigghealwindfarm.co.uk/community-2. html.
