-

At DYW West Highland we provide young people with the tools and inspiration to find their career pathway and the skills they need to make successful applications.

Strategies to find that perfect role in today’s job market can include a number of different sources and methods.

Career Fairs provide an excellent opportunity for job seekers to meet and network with potential employers. These events typically feature multiple employers who are looking to fill open positions within their organisation. It’s a great way to learn about different industries and job opportunities, as well as to gain insight into the hiring process – always take your CV with you to these events.

Newspaper adverts, while online job boards and social media platforms have become popular for job postings, some employers still prefer to advertise in newspapers. Job seekers should check local newspapers and industry-specific publications for job openings.

Approach employers,

sometimes the best way to find a job is to approach potential employers directly. This can involve reaching out to a named contact at companies that you are interested in working for and submitting your CV and cover letter. Even if there are no open positions at the time, it’s always good to make connections and let employers know you are interested in working for them in the future.

Social media platforms,

such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook, can be great resources for job seekers. Many employers post job openings on their social media accounts, and job seekers can

use these platforms to network with other professionals and learn about potential job opportunities.

Online job adverts, there are many online job boards, such as the Young Person’s Guarantee Opportunity Finder, findajob.dwp.gov. uk, or HiJOBS.net. These job boards offer a wide range of job opportunities and can be searched by location, industry, or job type. Job seekers can also set up job alerts, which will notify them when new job openings that match their search criteria become available. Many of these sites also provide advice on applications

– writing CVs and preparing for interviews.

In person, if you’re the type of applicant who likes to get out there and meet people, Skills Development Scotland and Jobcentre Plus both provide support to job seekers through their local offices where qualified advisers will support you.

Using a blend of the sources, methods and support listed above that works for you will provide a strategy to help you find a role that’s right for you. There are so many super opportunities right here in Lochaber.

The Highland Soap Visitor Centre & Larder Cafe has been a fantastic success since we opened it in December 2020; we have a large shop, currently being doubled in size with room to double again, a cafe with 110 covers and an outdoor events space - and all set in 6 acres of grounds with views over Ben Nevis in what is undoubtably the area’s best located tourist site. We are a friendly, locally-owned business with a good reputation locally and a strong tourist trade.

We are looking for a General Manager for The Highland Soap Visitor Centre & Larder Cafe outside Fort William. This is a new position for the company and the role will involve the management of the shop, cafe, grounds and facilities of this new £3m facility. Opening hours are mostly 9am-5pm, 7 days. The working hours will be 40 (30K-40K).

This is an exciting opportunity to run the whole site and team of 15-20, a new role for the company at an exciting stage of development. Whereas currently all the company’s soap and skincare are manufactured on site, this is being moved to a new factory 5 minutes away, freeing up 250m2 for expansion. If you are a proven manager looking for a new challenge, sociable hours and passionate about catering and retail, we would love to hear from you.
