Shinty community pay tribute to Scott Knox
Tributes are being paid this week to Fort William shinty player Scott Knox who has died suddenly at the age of 29, writes Fiona Scott.
A carpet fitter to trade, Scott played for Fort William SC and Lochaber CC as a youth and a senior, and latterly with Inverness side Boleskine.
Since the news of his death was announced earlier this week, shinty clubs and supporters from all over Scotland have been posting messages of sympathy across social media.
Fort William Shinty Club were among the first to pay tribute to their former player and friend: “Everyone at Fort William Shinty Club is devastated to hear of the passing of Scott Knox,” they said.
“Scott played with us from youth all the way to senior level and he will be sorely missed. Our sincere condolences go out to all his family and friends.”

Boleskine Camanachd Club who broke the sad news on Monday.
Lochaber Camanachd Club posted: “Scott played for Lochaber for a number of seasons and was a talented and committed member of the team.
“He played his part in our Second Teams North Division 3 league title win in 2010, as well as winning every honour at Under 17 level for the club.”
Scott’s mum Liz Knox, who lives in Fort William, acknowledged all the messages adding: “Jamie will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.”
His employers at MacDonald Flooring summed up the feelings of everyone.
“Anyone who got the privilege of meeting Scott, would agree he truly was one-of-akind and undoubtedly has left an everlasting impression on everybody,” they said.
