Ardgour Community Council

-

Ardgour Community Council (ACC) held its monthly meeting on Thursday April 13 over Zoom and in the Treslaig Hall.

Among the issues discussed were:

Camusnagaul glass recycling - There have been a number of requests from the community for a reinstatement. ACC chairperson Kendra Turnbull (KT) asked for suggestions from the public for alternative sites.

Ardgour Place Plan - After checking expenditure for 2022/23 and discussion by email with ACC members, treasurer Louise White confirmed that £5,000 could be made available towards the Ardgour Place Plan project as agreed at the March meeting.

Graveyard - KT has followed up complaints about bags of soil being left at the graveyard with David Lamont (Highland Council) who agreed that it was unacceptable and was apologetic.

The bags have since been removed and there should be no recurrence. KT has also spoken with Hugh Gardner (HC) about capacity and a potential extension to the graveyard.

The CC has been advised that Ardgour graveyard has 10 years capacity so is not on the capital programme, but is at a capacity where lairs are only sold when required and not in advance. Agreement to revisit when 10 lairs remain. Agreement to suggest as inclusion to Ardgour Place Plan to identify future demand.

First aid training and defibrillators - Still ongoing, secretary Claire Bennett-Levy (CBL) has been advised of local support and will follow up. KT noted importance of knowledge about locations of local defibrillators.

Litter pick - KT reminded all that a skip was at Sallachan beach for the rest of the week and encouraged people to fill a bag if they could.

Passing place signs and speed limits - KT advised that the new temporary speed limit zones had been put in place between Clovullin and Keil and also through Achaphubuil.

CBL will share the new speed limit maps on Facebook and via the mailing list.

KT highlighted local complaints about significant levels speeding in North Corran and Achaphubuil over recent days.

Loch Long Salmon - Stewart Hawthorn from Loch Long Salmon made a presentation about the proposed Lurignish salmon farm. He highlighted some of the benefits and noted and addressed concerns about environmental impact of salmon farming.

Date of next meeting - Thursday May 11 (7.30pm) at Treslaig Hall and on Zoom.
