Ferguson Transport and Shipping Balliemore Cup – first round

-

Northern Section Fort William 1 Kilmallie 3

Just three weeks after losing 4-1 to Fort William at An Aird in the league, Kilmallie turned the tables on their neighbours at the same venue.

Kilmallie took the lead on 28 minutes when Michael Rodger gathered a huge hit-in from the left and, at the second attempt, beat the keeper from a tight angle on the left.

However, straight from the re-start, Fort William surged up the middle of the pitch and Victor Smith played in Cam Stephen to score. Michael Rodger put Kilmallie back in front seven minutes into the second half. A quick Kilmallie break forward saw Calum MacDougall slip the ball across to Rodger on the right and he fired home on his left side. Lewis Birrell made it 3-1 with 15 minutes remaining, sending the ball over the keeper when the Fort William defence failed to clear Innes Blackhall’s freehit from the right.

Kilmallie manager John Morrison said: “The Fort were on top in the first half when we scored against the run of play and they put us under a tremendous amount of pressure towards the end of the half.

“We rejigged the team a little bit and asked the boys to work that wee bit harder and, luckily for us, our hard work paid off in the second half and we scored a couple of nice goals.”

Kilmallie now have home advantage against Col-Glen in the quarter-finals.

Glenurquhart 1 Glengarry 0

Mowi National Division side Glenurquhart beat Glengarry from Mowi North Division 1 1-0 at Blairbeg.

The only goal of the game came after 16 minutes with David MacLennan scoring.

Glengarry were reduced to 11 players five minutes later when Shaun Nicolson was sent off by referee Archie Ritchie. Glenurquhart now travel to Inveraray in the quarter-finals.

Lochaber 2 Inverness 1

Lochaber are through to the quarter-finals after beating 2-1 at Spean Bridge.

Lochaber built up a two goal interval lead through Ben Delaney on six minutes and Findlay MacDonald on 38 minutes.

Charlie MacDonald pulled a goal back for Inverness on 69 minutes, but it is Lochaber who travel to Oban Celtic in the last eight of the competition.
