Oban Camanachd 2 Lovat 2

Lovat scored twice in the final five minutes to draw 2-2 with Oban Camanachd in front of a large crowd at Mossfield.

Oban Camanachd’s Daniel Cameron, Daniel MacCuish and Jamie Forgrieve all shook off knocks from the previous week, with Cameron and MacCuish starting and Forgrieve starting on the bench.

Lovat were without Lewis Tawse, Graham MacMillan and Scotland attacker Greg Matheson so fielded a forward line of Craig Mainland, Sam Stubbs, Marc MacLachlan and James MacPherson.

Oban Camanachd started well enough and took the lead with a goal straight from the training ground. Daniel MacCuish played a quick free-hit to Malcolm Clark who slipped the ball by Lovat keeper Stuart MacDonald, who was racing off his line, to make it 1-0 with 10 minutes played.

The home side were unable to add to their tally and neither keeper had much to deal with, the game mainly being played between the two half back lines.

Oban Camanachd had introduced Daniel Madej and all four forwards - Daniel Cameron, Daniel Madej, Malcolm Clark and Daniel MacCuish - combined on 82 minutes with MacCuish rounding the keeper at the back post to score a wellworked goal.

With just five minutes remaining, referee Deek Cameron judged Louie McFarlane had fallen on the ball and awarded Lovat a penalty. James MacPherson took it and thumped the ball between the keeper’s legs to set up a grandstand finish.

With just a minute remaining, Lovat found the leveller. A corner came to Marc MacLachlan in the Oban goal area and he lifted the ball high into the net to make it 2-2.

Oban Camanachd defender Scott McKillop suffered an accidental blow to the face during the game but was able to continue.

Reflecting on the match, Oban Camanachd manager Gareth Evans could barely contain his anger. He said: “If we want to do anything this season, we can’t afford to throw away leads like that. It was our worst performance of the season. It was stagnant and felt like a loss. We have standards at this club and these standards demand more than we have shown recently.”

Oban Camanachd travel to the Winterton on Saturday where they will play Inveraray with a place in the Scottish Sea Farms Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final at stake. Gareth Evans added: “There will be changes, either positional or in personnel, and some players will have played their way out of the team with their performance against Lovat.”

Kingussie 4 Glasgow Mid Argyll 0

Kingussie go second in the league after beating Glasgow Mid Argyll 4-0 in their 3pm throw-up at the Dell.

Ruaridh Anderson scored an early double with goals on three and 15 minutes with Alexander Michie adding a third on 29 minutes to make it 3-0 at the break.

Savio Genini sealed victory on 76 minutes.

Beauly 1 Kyles Athletic 2

Kyles Athletic edged out Beauly 2-1 at Braeview Park.

Kyles started well before Beauly came into the game, but the first half ended goalless.

The excellent Conor Kennedy gave Kyles the lead four minutes after the re-start, with a great back-hand strike.

David MacLean drew Beauly level on 65 minutes, getting away from Callum Millar to score following a corner.

Ross MacRae got the winner on 78 minutes, striking the ball by the keeper although Kyles had their keeper John Whyte to thank for a great late save to help earn two valuable points.

Kyles Athletic’s Innes MacDonald, just back after injury, had to come off after falling awkwardly just before the break. He was replaced by Finan Kennedy.
