West Highland Housing Association awards home repairs contracts to keep jobs in Argyll

-

A home repairs and maintenance contract worth up to £3 million will keep jobs in Argyll, writes Kathie Griffiths.

Social landlord West Highland Housing Association (WHHA) has just awarded the contract to Argyll Homes for All (AHFA), the repairs and maintenance subsidiary of Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA).

The contract will see them carry out routine and emergency repairs for the majority of WHHA housing stock in Argyll, including Oban and on Mull and Iona, as well as getting empty homes ready for new tenants. WHHA are one of the partners in the Link Group of companies.

The contract is expected to last over the next four years in the first instance.

Oban Electrical Services (OES) had the main contract before AHFA won the most recent tender. OES will continue to provide routine electrical works conducted on a regular basis for WHHA stock.

WHHA also had a small number of staff carrying out small repair and maintenance work, mainly on its biomass boilers. These jobs will continue to be provided by WHHA, alongside the main AHFA repairs contract.

Brett Sadler, WHHA chief executive, said: “I’m so pleased AHFA has been awarded our recent repairs and maintenance contract following a robust tendering process.

“The new partnership between both organisations will offer improved services for tenants, as well as continuing to keep jobs locally in Argyll.

“One of the aims in our recently published corporate plan is to continue to develop and grow our organisation by delivering much-needed new homes in Argyll, as well as continuing to improve services for our tenants. This new contract award fits perfectly with these aims.”

Michelle Mundie, ACHA chief executive, added: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with West Highland Housing Association to deliver their repairs service.

“As ACHA’s repairs subsidiary, Argyll Homes for All understands the needs of housing associations to deliver quality repairs for tenants and this is something that we will work with WHHA to deliver on over the course of our partnership.”
