-

Artists inspired by the sea are being invited to enter a new art competition at The Rockfield Centre celebrating this summer’s shanty festival, writes Kathie Griffiths.

A weekend of rip-roaring songs, music and tales of the sea, with a host of great musicians from Scotland, England, France and the Netherlands, is lined up for this year’s Oban International Sea Shanty Festival, running from Friday June 23 to Sunday June 25, and the art competition and winners exhibition is all part of it.

From Monday May 29 to Friday June 16, artists of all ages are invited to enter work inspired by the sea, shanties, or any thing connected to maritime life.

It can be drawings, paintings, sculptures, photography or graphic design - it is up to you.

The competition is open to both amateurs and professionals, and there are categories for primary and preschool children, high school-aged youngsters as well as adults, with each age category judged separately.

To take part, all you have to do is send in your artwork digitally to the The Rockfield Centre website - you can enter two pieces.

Entrants making it through to round 2 will be invited to take part in the Sea Shanty Showcase from June 23-25.

The grand prize winners of the Sea Shanty Art Exhibition will have the incredible opportunity to showcase their artwork in The Rockfield Centre’s prestigious Silver Birch &

Scots Pine Gallery. This exhibition will feature the winning works from each age category and is a month-long display in a professional setting, offering artists of all ages and levels a chance to shine. Winners will receive help with the exhibition’s set-up, installation, and promotion, along with an opening night reception.
