Oban Camanachd and Kinlochshiel drew 1-1 at Mossfield where a good-sized crowd was treated to an entertaining game.

Kinlochshiel were forced to make a change in the opening minute when Oliver MacRae was accidentally caught on the arm by a Scott MacMillan swing. Jordan Fraser came on in his place.

Home goalie Cameron Sutherland was called into action to keep out a Jordan Fraser shot to the near post, playing the ball out for a corner.

Kinlochshiel had made the better start, but the Oban side were coming more into it when the visitors took a 36-minute lead through Jordan Fraser. The goal came following a good move from the midfield with Duncan “DA” MacRae’s ball flicked on by Archie MacRae. Jordan Fraser made a run through and when Finlay MacRae dummied the ball, by himself and his marker, Fraser picked it up and took the ball to the left post before slipping it through the keeper’s legs.

Josh Grant’s excellent save with his stick from a Matthew Sloss strike from around the penalty spot was the closest Camanachd came to scoring in the first half as the Kinlochshiel defence, probably the strongest part of their team, stayed strong, particularly in the air where Conor Cormack was dominant.

The hosts made a switch at the interval with full centre Daniel Cameron and forward Daniel MacVicar swapping roles and the move worked well with Oban Camanachd gaining better control of the midfield.

Daniel Madej hit a shot from the right early in the second half which Josh Grant saved with his foot at the near post and the ball ran across the goal line before being cleared.

Matthew Sloss was being marked by Scotland defender Mark MacDonald, but he broke free to equalise on 63 minutes. Scott MacMillan floated the ball in from midfield to around the penalty spot where Matthew Sloss turned and lashed the ball high into the net to make it 1-1.

Speaking after the match, Gareth Evans said: “We should have won the game, but I’m happier with the performance, especially in the second half, compared to recent games.

“We changed a couple of things at half-time and that seemed to work for us. We had good performances from Daniel Madej, Blair McFarlane and Daniel Sloss, whilst young Matthew Sloss did well against an experienced Kinlochshiel defence. I would
