VIEW FROM THE CHAMBER

-

Lochaber Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to be hosting a work experience opportunity this week and that got us thinking about how this can be a positive and enriching experience for both employers and students.

These workplace experiences open doors to practical skills, exploring industry, and provide a deeper understanding of the professional world. It provides an invaluable opportunity to enhance students' employability, showcasing qualities such as initiative, adaptability, and a strong work ethic especially when learning new skills and understanding briefs.

Work experience provides networking opportunities, allowing students to build connections and secure valuable references for the future, something that the Chamber is happy to support.

On the other side, employers can greatly benefit from work experience as they can gain fresh perspectives and innovative, infusing new energy into their organisation and offers early talent identification.

By offering work experience, it showcases the employer's commitment to fostering a skilled and capable workforce, contributing to a positive employer brand and reputation, which when coupled with the above benefits, is a win-win.

At the time of writing, the work experience students will be welcomed to the Chamber of Commerce offices in Fort William and will be immersed into understanding what the chamber is, our role in the community, the projects and programmes we support, including Developing the Young Workforce West Highland, and our destination operations representing Outdoor Capital of the UK.

Thank you to Mallaig High School for this opportunity and if any readers are interested in finding out more about how DYW West Highland can support their businesses as well as offering work experience opportunities please call 01397 705 765 or email info@dywwesthighland.org.
