Jevons stars as Oban under 14s finish on high

-

Oban Lorne Rugby Club’s under 14s travelled to Loch Lomond on Sunday to play their final game of the season.

Led by Jacob Jevons’ hard running and tackling, Oban were soon on the scoreboard with an excellent Conan Burns try after good work by Josh Olds and Dougie Brown.

Lomond hit back immediately though with their first try.

Oban led again after a powerful Jevons break saw the ball moved quickly to Brown for another try as Liam Maclennan added the extras.

Burns added his second moments later, with Maclennan’s conversion giving the visitors a 19-5 lead.

From the restart, full back Harrison Felgate counter-attacked from close to his own line, before Toby Wilson fed fly-half Tom Corns, whose well-timed pass saw Felgate score to extend Oban’s lead.

With the visitors well on top, they gave away needless penalties, leading to two further opposition tries to give a scoreline of 17-24. This sparked the visitors back to life and Olds grabbed Oban’s fifth converted try, with an interception score from halfway, but some sloppy defence was then punished by another Lomond try to make it 22-31. This was quickly followed by good ruck speed and a blindside break from Jevons sent Burns scorching over for his hat trick after a nice Jevons pass, before Maclennan added the extras.

A poor Oban kick allowed Lomond to score again, narrowing the gap to nine points, but Brown responded by storming over for his second try, with Maclennan’s conversion making it 29-45.

Jevons fielded a goal line drop out and burst through Lomond’s defence to send Brown through a gap. Brown then passed to Ben Docherty, who powered over the line for another converted try to take the score to 29-52.

Two more Lomond scores made the final score 39-52. Man of the match was Conan Burns.
