Oban District darts finals night checks out in style
The latest season of the Oban & District Darts (ODD) league came to a close on Friday after another entertaining finals night, writes Finn Nixon.
An awards presentation kicked off proceedings on the night as Kenny Carmichael led a ceremony recognising the ODD’s third season’s stand-out performers.
The most improved player of the season went to Lewis McPhee, who has thrown some great darts this season to finish eighth overall and therefore, qualify for the Oban darts team.
Ron MacLean was awarded player of the season as he finished narrowly behind the eventual league winner, Adam Brook after leading for a large chunk of the season.
Highlights for Ron were a memorable 158 checkout and a nine darter with six perfect darts as he also picked up the second place trophy.
The third place trophy went to Fagan McPhee, who maintained a high standard of darts throughout the season to cement a third overall finish. In first place was Adam Brook as he took his third successive league title from three in the new ODD format.
Meanwhile, the finals night action saw two groups of four battle it out to reach the semi-finals, with only two players from each group making it through.
Adam Brook and Ron MacLean overcame Kenny Carmichael and Adrian Mackay respectively to set up yet another classic ODD final.
In the end, Adam came out on top, but there was more entertainment in the Consolation Cup, with Arran Manson defeating Iain Maclean in a superb final.
This coming after Connor MacDonald and Moray MacNiven had reached the semi-finals.
Kenny Carmichael was also in inspiring form on Friday as he recorded huge 170 and 157 checkouts to round-off a fifth place in the overall league.
The ODD’s Adam Brook said: “Season four will be starting up again sometime in August and I will post the dates when I know more.
“Thank you everyone for a fantastic season and please come down and join us next season for the craic and darts.”
