Inverness based mobility business takes home Scotland’s Best Specialised Retailer regional award

-

CITY Mobility in Inverness has been named Best Specialised Retailer at the regional Scotland’s Business Awards.

The only mobility business north of the central belt of Scotland to supply, service and repair powered wheelchairs and mobility scooters, both privately and through the Motability Scheme, from Aberdeen to the Western Isles, and from Shetland to Fort William.

They also fit private or commercial car adaptations, carry out LOLER testing on wheelchair lifts and hoists, and service everything from electric golf buggies to rise and recline chairs and other electric mobility aids.

‘Our team of ten includes qualified Motability Assessors, Engineers and a Vehicle Adaptations Advisor, all with a huge amount of experience and a wealth of product knowledge.’ said Managing Director Carol Elliot.

Carol has mobility issues, having lived with rheumatoid arthritis for over 50 years. She has been involved with organisations representing people with disabilities, ‘I understand the importance of a person’s equipment to them, and how a disability or long term health condition shapes a person and his or her life experiences,’ she said. ‘I can empathise with customers in pain, experiencing good and bad days.’

If you receive allowances for PIP, DLA, WPMS, AFIP or the higher rate mobility component of the Adult Disability Payment or Child Disability Payment, you may qualify for a product lease on the Motability Scheme.

The City Mobility showroom in Inverness has one of the largest selections of products in Scotland, with more than 70 models from over 15 respected brands on display. If you can’t get to the showroom, you can start with a telephone consultation, and someone will come to your home with a couple of products that they think will work.

‘Either way, we help people find the most suitable product for them and their needs,’ Carol said. ‘If the person is applying for a product through the Motability Lease scheme, they are welcome to come to the showroom, but we must do a home visit, test drive and assessment.’

Scotland’s Business Awards are nominated by the public, and Carol and her team were thrilled to be recognised. The winning businesses automatically go through to the national awards being held in Glasgow in November.

‘We still haven’t found out which customer nominated us for the award but we were delighted all the same,’ she said. ‘On a weekly basis we hear from customers telling us how the service we provide makes a huge difference to their lives, but it is nice to have this acknowledged outside the disabled community through the business awards.’
