Oban Camanachd 1 Skye Camanachd 1

Oban Camanachd came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Skye Camanachd at Mossfield.

This game was a good watch for the spectators; a physical encounter throughout with both sides going at it for the full 90 minutes.

Skye won the toss of the coin and started with a strong wind in their favour, capitalising on a defensive error on the halfhour to take the lead.

Calum MacMillan delayed when he had the chance to clear the ball inside the D and James Pringle nipped in to slam the ball home.

Some plain talking from Oban manager Gareth Evans had his side fired up for the restart and the second half was just a couple of minutes old when Malcolm Clark shot home as Skye tried to clear.

Both made good saves during the game and there was no further scoring.

Skye boss Kenny MacLeod said: “We stood up to them and showed huge character and I think we would have won it other than for a couple of incredible saves from their keeper Cammy Sutherland.”

Kinlochshiel 2 Beauly 0

They took their time to break down a stuffy Beauly side but Kinlochshiel eventually took the points at Rèaraig.

‘Shiel dominated from the throw up and Archie MacRae shot wide of the far post from the left of the D following a smart passing move.

Keith MacRae’s snapshot following a ball from the right was expertly tipped away with his club by Beauly keeper Lee Dunbar.

At the other end, Josh Grant saved with his feet following Euan McCormick’s shot from the right following a rare Beauly attack.

Jordan Fraser was forced off injured with Zander MacRae taking over before Archie MacRae took down Keith MacRae’s ball from the left and shot through a crowded goal area, but Lee Dunbar saved well with his foot before clearing.

Dunbar saved with his feet minutes later after Archie MacRae held off Angus Renwick before

shooting and Beauly somehow held on until the interval without conceding. The weather improved slightly for the second half.

With 15 minutes to go, ‘Shiel manager Willie MacRae brought John MacRae off the

bench in a move that changed the game. First, on 78 minutes, John MacRae was involved in the build-up as Archie MacRae did just enough to force the ball inches over the line following a goalmouth melee.

Then, just a couple of minutes later, John MacRae turned before driving the ball lo into the net from left of centre to make it 2-0.

‘Shiel almost added a third when John MacRae sent Archie MacRae through on goal. Keeper Lee Dunbar came off his line but MacRae got to the ball first, sending it goalwards, but Ryan MacKay raced back before diving forward to just prevent the ball from crossing the goal line.

‘Shiel manager Willie MacRae said: “I lost count of how many shots missed the target in the first half but, John was our “super-sub” today.

“I didn’t want to use him, but we had to put him on and even his presence makes a difference, and he made a goal for Archie before scoring himself.”

After a successful back operation almost three months ago, John MacRae said: “I’m really happy with how things have gone so far since the operation.

“My back can feel a bit stiff after games, and maybe I shouldn’t have been involved in both matches today, but it’s good to be back playing.”
