Yeovil stun Newport in six- goal romp
Yeovil ended Newport’s winning run in emphatic fashion with a stunning 6- 0 win at Rodney Parade. The hosts had won four in a row and were unbeaten in six but were taken apart, dropping to third in the table and lifting Yeovil to fifth.
The visitors took the lead midway through the first half as Yoann Arquin powered Jordan Green’s cross home and Green picked out the bottom corner to double their score seven minutes before the break. Diallang Jaiyesimi’s close- range header on the stroke of half- time made it 3- 0, while Green added his second three minutes into the second half. Olufela Olomola’s strike and Carl Dickinson’s free- kick made it six before Robbie Willmott was sent off for the hosts.
Leaders Lincoln returned to winning ways to open up a threepoint gap at the top of the table after a narrow 2- 1 away victory over struggling Macclesfield. Exeter leapfrogged Newport into second thanks to a 2-1 win at Mansfield, while bottom side Notts County had to settle for a point after three times going ahead at home to midtable Stevenage.
