Can You Feel It: How Dance Music Conquered the World

BBC Four, 10pm

The Beat The first in this authoritative three-part history of the dance revolution spans the emergence of the four-to-the -floor beat in Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes’ 1973 disco floorfiller The Love I Lost, through remix culture to house, techno and on to acid house, culminating with 808 State’s 1989 hit Pacific State. Famous names jostle to illuminate the subject but oddly – typical coy BBC – ecstasy is only mentioned just before the close. Quality.
