Toot, toot to us
SIR: Blowing its own trumpet is not the musical performance indulged in by The Oldie. Nor, I’m pretty sure, is such an indulgence favoured by its readers. However, as a long-standing, devoted one, currently revelling happily in the May issue, may I seize the instrument and blow a resounding paean? Every issue arrives with the pleasure of an old and beloved friend coming to stay (without the attendant shopping and cooking chores). Several loud toots for all the contributors, along with the cartoonists, photographers and others who help to produce this marvellous antidote to the gloom and despondency that seems to hover about many oldies. Over the years I have laughed loud and long, learned much, been inspired, infuriated, touched and above all enjoyed myself hugely, all thanks to The Oldie. Thomasina Tarling, Southleigh, Devon.
