SIR: I fear that The Old Un is under a severe misapprehension regarding the display of Baby on Board signs on the backs of cars (May issue).
Many years ago I was on a first aid course where we were taught to look for Baby on Board signs in the event of a bad car crash. While first-aiders were attending to the injured adults, they might be unaware that there could be another casualty in the back of the car.
The common misapprehension that the signs are simply there for parents to proudly announce their offspring should be widely contradicted, and the true reason should be publicised, and in so doing might save some young lives. Paul Jarrett, Cranleigh, Surrey.
