10. Georgian classical
From George I’s accession (1714) until George IV’S death (1830), Britain went crazy for classical. Baroque Blenheim Palace (left, 1722) was by Vanbrugh and Hawksmoor. Later in the 18th century came the neo-classicism of Adam and Chambers (Somerset House, middle, 1776). The Greek Revival followed (Smirke’s British Museum, right, begun 1823).
