Ali Carter (p22) is a Sussex-based artist and writer. She specialises in drawing pet portraits. A Brush with Death, published this month, is her first novel – a murder mystery, solved by an ace pet detective.

Alexander Waugh (p15) is Auberon Waugh’s son and Evelyn Waugh’s grandson. He is general editor of the 42-volume The Complete Works of Evelyn Waugh.

Giles Wood (p51) attended Shrewsbury School, a fertile source of disc jockeys, including Simon Dee and John Peel. Now on Gogglebox, he used to be an artist and hasn’t ruled out being one again.

Ivo Dawnay (p90) writes about Morocco in this issue. A former Sunday Telegraph foreign correspondent, he thinks he first went to Marrakech in the 1960s but it was – and remains – all a bit of a blur.
