Overlooked in Winchester

SIR: I enjoyed reading Lucinda Lambton on St Mary’s Hospital (May issue). There is a similar institution in Winchester. The Hospital of St Cross and its church were founded between 1133 and 1136 by Henry de Blois, grandson of William the Conqueror. Still going strong, it is known as ‘Winchester’s best-kept secret’.
