Porn free

SIR: I had an identical email to the one mentioned in ‘Suicidal over porn email threat’ (Ask Virginia, November issue). But not having anything untoward to hide, certainly no naughty pictures, and as it was largely illiterate, I knew it to be a scam.

I think people may panic when told that a password has been compromised. But do not panic, do not pay and certainly do not, as suggested by Virginia Ironside, destroy your computer. That is certainly unnecessary. Erase the email and change your passwords by all means, but nothing else is required.

My advice is to pour yourself a stiff drink and relax. And stop looking at mucky pictures. Denis Waugh, London SW17
