Wilfred the great…
SIR: Wilfred De’ath’s column is often the first thing I turn to in The Oldie. I’m so glad successive editors have ignored killjoys calling for his dismissal.
Researching online recently for an article on Daphne du Maurier (in the January issue of Writing Magazine), I chanced upon an interview she gave the BBC in 1971. The interviewer, a gingerhaired young man, very polite and very smartly dressed, visited her at home in Cornwall. His questions produced some fascinating insights into her approach to writing.
Thank you, Wilfred. Tony Rossiter, West Burton, North Yorkshire
