Smoking hot lunch
SIR: Liz Treacher’s article (February issue) brought back happy memories of the mid ’60s, when a café near my office would accept luncheon vouchers for cigarettes, and thus I could buy 40 Gold Leaf for nine shillings, spending three LVS.
Additionally I was able to demonstrate my affluence when taking my now wife on our first date to an Indian restaurant for a meal. Because I had just received my monthly supply of LVS, my largesse was unbounded. Howard Dawson, Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire
