TWEED ORKNEY STYLE

-

If local craftsmanship sparks your interest, then Orkney Tweed is a must visit. Owner Nancy Fergus is more at home among her flock of sheep — yet you will find her most days in her Victoria Street shop in Kirkwall.

The beautiful natural colours of the homegrown wool from her Zwartbles breed provide this unique brand of Orkney Tweed, and have led to a huge range of unique and original products.

Orkney Tweed’s varied range of traditional tweed patterns are handmade into an ever-growing range of quality garments, from men’s waistcoats and ties to women’s gilets, ponchos and skirts, and a new range of ladies’ jackets and capes is also available in the shop.

Clothing isn’t the only thing the shop stocks. They have a range of beautiful, handmade soft furnishings, from cushions to throws, as well as lampshades and their ever-popular kists, with an Orkney tweed of your choice on the top.

All of the furnishings are handmade by local craftsmen, and can be made to order.

As well as tweed products, the shop stocks the natural yarn available to buy for hand-knitting, while it also stocks dyed yarn from the famed seaweed-eating North Ronaldsay sheep.

Orkney Tweedy Bears are popular too. Handmade in Orkney exclusively for the shop, each one has a passport for any travelling they might have to do!

The shop also stocks a range of handmade local crafts items supporting the many talented craftspeople in the islands.
